01: THE CLIENT

Kootenay Festival of the Arts

  • Graphic Design
  • Marketing Campaign
  • Promotional Strategy
In 2019, the Nelson BC branch of the Kootenay Festival of the Arts (KFA) decided to follow Trail BC, KFA’s lead by creating promotional merchandise to market the festival in the short and long term. The sale of the t-shirts was also a fundraiser to support the ongoing success of the event.
THE CHALLENGE
The t-shirt had to be created with two goals in mind: to craft a timeless design allowing for years of wear (and waste reduction) in a style appealing to the KFA’s target audience.
THE SOLUTION
The t-shirt had to be created with two goals in mind: to craft a timeless design allowing for years of wear (and waste reduction) in a style appealing to the KFA’s target audience
We worked with the board representative to develop a design that was suitable for both adults, youth and children, was gender neutral, classic and showcased the natural beauty of the Nelson BC area.
02: OUR APPROACH

Timeless Tee

Designed an attractive, unique t-shirt conducive to long-term use, printed on good quality fabric and that will continually market the festival for years to come.

Great designs sometimes start with humble ideas. Sketches can provide invaluable insight into ideas and vision.
Facebook design surveys can provide lots of quick feedback and fresh ideas.
It often takes research and an inquisitive mind to bring designs to life.
THE TURNING POINT

Solidifying Ideas with the Vision

Thinking strategically about what the goals are behind an idea is instrumental to the design process and the project’s success. Jen Tinholt came to us with a very clear vision about designing merchandise for the 2020 Kootenay Festival of The Arts.

We worked with Jen throughout the project, thinking critically about her goals. We developed a process that resulted in a design evolution that flowed smoothly. By continually modifying and adjusting elements and simplifying ideas we were able to create the vision that the KFA board had in mind.

We used concepts from the client’s original drawing to create a digital version to work with.

03: THE RESULT

Bringing it Together

Solution-based thinking and ingenuity helped us bring the Kootenay Festival of the Arts timeless t-shirt design to life.

  • Design was created in alignment with the committee’s goals and vision.
  • KFA’s values were upheld by creating an enduring, environmentally-friendly promotional product for the festival.
  • Strategy planning ensured we adhered to a strict timeline and budget.
  • Feedback was solicited from industry leaders through online-survey outreach to further refine and clarify the image.
